Tuning 3 row/80 bass
« on: November 14, 2014, 12:59:18 PM »
I have a 50s Casali 80 bass which while it sounds great having been 'recently' tuned by John C (I think).
It is abt 143 so cannot be played with fiddle.
I would quite like it Irish ceilidh/wet tuned. Any suggestions/comments on where I meant get this done well.

I am probably showing my ignorance as a non fiddle player  but can't the fiddler just tune up a midge to  match your box?

Yes but it is a midge too far. Also other instruments cannot.

Hi Paul,
Good to have you on the forum.

Some possibilities for tuning:

- Last I heard, John C was still very active, but very busy as usual. Freuchie, tel: 01337 857214

- Robert Rolston (Manfrini). Since he's now making boxes specifically for the Irish market (the Manfrini Bosca Ceoil 2-row), he might be just the man for the job. http://www.manfriniaccordions.co.uk/about-us.html

- Iain Buchanan might be someone else worth speaking to: http://www.accordionrepairs-scotland.co.uk/

- and of course Theo Gibb: http://www.theboxplace.co.uk/
