MMM / LMMM ?
« on: March 04, 2017, 06:18:27 PM »
Most of my playing is on a Gaelic IVS so my options are MMM or LMMM.

Prior to that mostly playing MM only 2 rows.

Was glad to get the LMMM option as I sometimes thought MM or MMM a bit screechy up at the high end, so for most of the time have played LMMM. Been making a bit more use of MMM of late though.

While I know there are no hard and fast rules, when would you be most inclined to bring in (or leave out) the low reeds?

Andy , you have hit the nail on the head in that there are no hard and fast rules.  It is indeed personal choice and could depend on the particular tune or type of tune, whether playing solo or in some sort of group of musicians  with different types of instrument. Whether accompanying singer(s) etc etc.

For what its worth ,and its only a personal view,  I tend to use all 4 voices for many but not all waltzes  ,  3 or 4 for marches, 3 for song accompaniment, 3 for aires.

However I frequently break my own rules so to  speek  particulary  by changing from 3 to 4  here and there!

probably not the answer you were looking for !

Not at all, all sounds fairly reasonable to me.
